How to use the Project Resource Center

Concepts you should understand

Project Resource Center
The Project Resource Center is a web-based application that allows you to view documents, images, and contact information as well as the latest updates and status of your project. Each person you would like to have access to project information can use the password to log in to the Project Resource Center, then view information, images, and download documents.

Project Resource Center home page
The Project Resource Center home page is the page that you reach after entering your user ID and password to access your project. Like all pages of the Project Resource Center, the home page has links to the major sections, including announcements, documents, team contact information, and the image gallery.

Document
A document is a copy of a computer file that one project team member has chosen to share with the other project team members. The document is uploaded (copied) from the local computer onto the web server. When uploading a document, the project team member also enters a brief document description and title, and assigns the document to a specific document category to make it easier for the other team members to find. When a user uploads a document, the project administrator may review the document before it is shared with other users. Documents can be any file normally used on a desktop computer, such as Microsoft Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, Adobe PDF files, and more. Click here for more information about uploading documents.

Important note: To successfully share files over the Internet, you must follow certain naming conventions when choosing names for your files. Some characters that you might use as part of a file's name might not be allowed on other operating systems. Before you try to upload documents of your own, click here for more information about file naming conventions.

Gallery images
In addition to the Documents section, the Project Resource Center contains a Gallery section which can be used to share images. Technically, the Gallery section works identically to the Documents section. A project team member uploads image files from a local computer and assigns them to a Gallery category, along with a title and description. When a user uploads an image, the project administrator may review the image before it is shared with other users. If the uploaded gallery image is a GIF or JPEG file, it can be displayed with a thumbnail preview of the image that you can see before you choose to download or view the full-size image.
